Bedrest Boredom

I would firstly like to apologise for not posting a blog for a couple of weeks. As I have mentioned previously I have a long term condition called Crohns Disease and during these past couple of weeks I was admitted to hospital. Where you have to pay for the internet….hence no blogs or no picture updates.

I do like to keep this blog about my profession, but that’s kind of hard to do when I’ve been unable to work as I’ve been staring at the same four walls. So this week is slightly different, this week is about what I’ve been doing to stop myself going crazy.

It’s one thing when you’re so unwell that you physically cannot do anything, and I mean anything, there were days that I was so exhausted that I struggled to lift my head in the morning and had the ‘what’s the point mentality’, but I almost find it worse when I start to feel better and yet I know I don’t have the strength to do what I want to do.

So when I started to feel better I tried to focus beyond the hospital walls.

As I didn’t have access to the internet ‘except the data on my phone’, I was pretty limited in what I could do. So if you ever find yourself in this circumstance here are a couple of tips that I hope will get you through.

Keep Your Routine: Might sound like a backwards idea but having a routine will help keep you from going bed crazy. Plan to get dressed daily and put on a bit of make-up (if that’s what you normally would do). Modifying where you have to for your bed rest orders, keeping a morning routine as similar as you can to your normal routine will help break up the day/night and energise you.

Step Out Of Your Zone: Is there a series that you have heard a lot about but haven’t watched? What about a new book author your friends are raving about but you haven’t had time? Taking this time to expand out your regular or usual entertainment genres can help pass the time.

While In Bed, Sleep: You are supposed to be resting after all so use this time to catch up on some ‘zzzz’s can both help pass time and energise your mind and body.

Become a Kid Again: Remember all those board games you used to play as a child? Why not break them out? A couple of my friends brought me some sudoku’s and colouring books, you’d be surprised how relaxing these were. Or if you have a portable game console like a DS or your laptop those can give you hours of entertainment as well.

Prepare Wirelessly: I spent the majority of my time organising and planning. I still have my eyes on the prize. Due to not being able to actually contact anyone via email, social network I’ve been planning and made lists. Lists upon lists. Who to contact and why? Do I need to get pictures from a recent shoot? To organise a shoot? To clarify auditions/castings for future work.

These are only a couple of basic tips, but if this helps just one person who may be in the same predicament then I’ll be happy xxx
